Goethe-Barometer

The inventor of this unusual barometer, was no one else, but the famous Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The interest in measuring air pressure has been of great importance to Goethe.
He always emphasized his strong belief in this barometer, and this was recorded in 1827, that Goethe himself tried to arrange in 1792/93 the manufacture of this instrument, by himself approaching the local glass industry in Ilmenau (Germany).
After his death the wonderful discovery was made in 1832, when the executor of this Will found a weatherglass in his house in weimar - which was our Goethe-Barometer- still in use today. The original model has been preserved for future generations and can be seen in the National Goethemuseum in Weimar.
